Concrete Patios in Calumet City & Chicagoland
Back-yard slabs sized to the furniture you actually own, sloped away from the house and finished the way you want.
What we do
Concrete Patios
A patio is the one slab that gets used for something other than parking, so it is worth getting the size and the shape right before anything is poured.
We lay out the slab against the furniture and the grill you actually plan to put on it, slope it away from the foundation, and finish it broomed, exposed or stamped depending on what you are after.
Finishes for a patio
- Broom finish — the hard-wearing standard
- Exposed aggregate for texture underfoot
- Stamped patterns in stone, slate or brick
- Bordered slabs with a contrasting edge
- Extensions to an existing patio
Why Sammson
What you get out of it
Sized before it is poured
We mark the outline on the ground first so you can stand in it before it becomes permanent.
Slopes away from the house
A patio that drains back toward the foundation is a basement problem waiting to happen.
Choice of finish
Broom, exposed aggregate or a stamped pattern — the slab underneath is built the same either way.
Ready for what comes next
Tell us if a pergola or a fire pit is coming and we set the slab up for it now.
How we work
How the job runs
Seven steps, in this order, every time. Skipping any of them is where concrete jobs go wrong.
On-site assessment
We come out, measure the area, look at drainage and at how the existing concrete has failed, and talk through what you want. You get a written quote with no obligation.
Removal of the old slab
When there is old concrete in the way, we break it out and haul it off. Nothing new gets poured on top of a slab that is already failing.
Grading and base prep
We grade the sub-base for slope and drainage and compact the stone underneath. In Chicagoland this is the step that decides whether the slab survives the freeze-thaw cycle.
Forming and reinforcement
Forms go in to hold the shape and the edges you asked for, straight or curved, with reinforcement sized to what the slab has to carry.
The pour
Concrete goes in, gets screeded and floated, and control joints are cut where the slab is meant to crack so that it does not crack anywhere else.
Finish and seal
Broom finish for grip, or a stamped pattern and colour if that is what you chose. Decorative work is sealed to protect the colour.
Clean-up and cure
We clean the site before we leave and tell you exactly how long to stay off it and how to look after it through the first winter.

What customers say
What customers said
Stamped patio, custom shape
A homeowner asked for a stamped patio in a custom octagonal shape. Sammson built it to that shape, kept them informed about the pour, the colour and the sealing as the work went on, and left the site clean at the end.

Questions we get asked
Before you call
What size patio should I build?
Start from the furniture. A table with chairs that pull out needs more room than people expect, so we mark it out on site before quoting.
Can you extend the patio I already have?
If the existing slab is sound, yes, with a joint between old and new. If it is cracked through or has settled, replacing the whole thing gives a better result.
Concrete or pavers?
Concrete is one continuous surface with less to weed and settle. We only pour concrete, so ask us and we will give you the honest trade-off.
