Concrete Replacement in Calumet City & Chicagoland
Cracked, sunken or crumbling concrete taken out and replaced with a slab built to last through Chicagoland winters.
What we do
Concrete Replacement
Concrete around a Chicagoland home does not usually fail because the concrete was bad. It fails because water got underneath it, froze, and lifted it. Patching that only buys a season or two.
Replacement means the old slab comes out, the base gets rebuilt and graded so water runs away from the house, and the new pour goes in with proper joints. It costs more than a patch and it is the last time you have to think about it.
What usually needs replacing
- Driveways with wide cracks or sections that have dropped
- Sidewalks lifted by tree roots or frost
- Front and back steps pulling away from the house
- Patios that now slope toward the foundation
- Garage aprons and service walks that have spalled
Why Sammson
What you get out of it
The water problem gets solved
Re-grading the base so water drains away from the foundation is part of the job, not an extra.
No pouring over failure
Overlays on a moving slab crack in the same places. The old concrete comes out first.
Debris hauled away
Breaking out and disposing of the old slab is included. You are not left with a pile in the yard.
One contractor, whole job
Demolition, base, forms, pour and finish are all ours, so there is nobody to blame in the middle.
How we work
How the job runs
Seven steps, in this order, every time. Skipping any of them is where concrete jobs go wrong.
On-site assessment
We come out, measure the area, look at drainage and at how the existing concrete has failed, and talk through what you want. You get a written quote with no obligation.
Removal of the old slab
When there is old concrete in the way, we break it out and haul it off. Nothing new gets poured on top of a slab that is already failing.
Grading and base prep
We grade the sub-base for slope and drainage and compact the stone underneath. In Chicagoland this is the step that decides whether the slab survives the freeze-thaw cycle.
Forming and reinforcement
Forms go in to hold the shape and the edges you asked for, straight or curved, with reinforcement sized to what the slab has to carry.
The pour
Concrete goes in, gets screeded and floated, and control joints are cut where the slab is meant to crack so that it does not crack anywhere else.
Finish and seal
Broom finish for grip, or a stamped pattern and colour if that is what you chose. Decorative work is sealed to protect the colour.
Clean-up and cure
We clean the site before we leave and tell you exactly how long to stay off it and how to look after it through the first winter.
What customers say
What customers said
Stamped patio, custom shape
A homeowner asked for a stamped patio in a custom octagonal shape. Sammson built it to that shape, kept them informed about the pour, the colour and the sealing as the work went on, and left the site clean at the end.

Questions we get asked
Before you call
Do you remove the old concrete?
Yes. Breaking out the old slab and hauling the debris away is part of every replacement job we quote.
Can you just resurface instead?
Only if the slab underneath is sound and level. If it is moving, cracked through, or holding water, an overlay will fail the same way the original did.
How long before I can use it?
Foot traffic is usually fine after a couple of days and vehicles after about a week, depending on the weather. We tell you the exact dates for your pour before we leave.
